  • Regular Window Tint vs. Ceramic Window Tint
Did you know that window tinting can now be done using ceramic nanotechnology? In fact, it's not only used, it's highly recommended. But what is the difference? The most basic tint available is dyed window film also known as regular tint. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a dyed film that darkens the shades of your car windows. This is one of the most widely available window tints; in fact, you’ve probably seen a couple of these films stocked at your local convenience store with acronyms such as VLT 5%, 25%, or even 50%. In its most basic form, VLT stands for Visible Light Transmission; these figures indicate how much light can be transmitted through various films, and it also determines how dark your window will appear after it has been applied. For example, a window with 70% VLT will appear very light, whereas a window with 5% VLT will appear very dark. The higher the number, the more see-through your film is, and the lower the number, the less see-through it is.

  • Should I use a DIY ceramic coating kit?
There are a lot of DIY ceramic coating kits coming onto the market. We have a lot of people who try it and then call us needing help. Some things to be aware of if you are going to do this on your own: Here are some pros and cons of using a DIY kit. Pros Nano ceramics are relatively user-friendly and easier to apply Ceramic coating a car offers extremely cost-effective paint protection The results are visible, but have a lot of variables that factor into the quality Cons Properly preparing the surface of your paint can be difficult You may need to conduct extensive research because there are a lot of poor-quality knockoffs out there Companies may not provide you with proper guidance in terms of application Some companies can exaggerate benefits Here at Detail Auto, we use and recommend Ceramic Pro. • How does ceramic coating differ from wax or polymers?
Ceramic coatings and wax/polymers are completely different. Ceramics bond with, but do not damage, your paint. They create a long-lasting bond that offers superior look/feel/protection.
  • How does a ceramic coating work?
Ceramic coatings (by Ceramic Pro) utilize nanotechnology, which are tiny particles that come together to form a very thin and transparent layer that is invisible to the eye. This layer seals the pores on your car’s paint, producing superior hydrophobic properties, as well as more resistant to ultra-violet rays, scratches, chemicals, and extreme heat. The ceramic coat forms a semi-permanent bond with the surface of your vehicle meaning that it will not wash away or break down over a short period of time.
